Dr. Julie C. Woods is a practicing periodontist in Topeka, KS, where she has lived and worked since completing her residency at Baylor College of Dentistry in 2004. In 2017, when she and her team were crushing their production goals, Dr. Woods was burned out and making less money than ever. She was tempted to walk away from dentistry all together.

Thankfully, someone suggested she read Profit First by Mike Michalowicz. She implemented the cash management system in early 2018. As Dr. Woods began sharing about her progress decreasing overhead expenses while increasing her take home pay, without having to “produce more,” colleagues asked for more information.

Many of her friends read, or attempted to read, Profit First, but did not understand how to implement this system in their practice. They didn’t think it was feasible to have multiple bank accounts nor did they believe they could reduce overhead to less than 65%. They still weren’t even sure if they were truly profitable or if they were taking home the right “salary.”

In 2020, Dr. Woods pursued certification as a Profit First Professional so she could assist dental colleagues implement the cash management system. However, as her own practice transformed, she began to enjoy practicing more and time became limited for helping colleagues. Dental friends began asking if she would consider writing a book to help them better understand the business of dentistry.

Dr. Woods is committed to busting the myth that the answer to all money problems is merely to “produce more.” She does not want anyone to ever feel as overwhelmed and burned out as she did. She knows they can transform their businesses, allowing them to choose their practice destiny.
